The Design-Benefit Specification
The Design-Benefit Specification is where your business case becomes a buildable, vendor-neutral blueprint — every requirement traceable to a benefit, and every benefit traceable to a supplier deliverable.
Most specifications are written to satisfy a compliance checklist. Ours are written to protect the value case. We take the benefits identified in your business and design case and turn them into a rigorous, GAMP 5-aligned document set that any competent supplier could build to — and, crucially, that no single supplier owns.
That last point is the whole game. Because we author your specification independently of any vendor, you own a portable, vendor-neutral blueprint — the difference between being locked to one integrator's way of doing things and being free to re-tender, swap a tier, or evolve the line as your products change. The specification is where modularity is won or lost.
- URS — User Requirements: throughput, product mix, changeover, regulatory obligations, the benefits you're buying.
- FDS — Functional Design: what the system must do to meet the URS — functions, interfaces, performance, safety and data.
- SDS — System / Software Design: how it is built and configured — the detail suppliers deliver against.
Each specification document has a matching qualification stage on the other arm of the V — IQ, OQ and PQ — so every requirement you write is a requirement you can later prove. Requirements flow down; verification flows back up; nothing is left to assumption.

Because the safety requirements live in your URS and FDS, they travel with the line. Swap a vendor or reconfigure a cell and the safety case doesn't have to be rebuilt — it's specified, traceable and ready to re-verify.
Get the order of operations right
The most common reason digital transformation stalls on the factory floor isn't the technology — it's sequence. Analytics, AI and MES compound beautifully on top of a modular, well-instrumented physical architecture, and struggle badly without one. Build the modular foundation first, then layer the digital capability it makes possible — kept vendor-neutral and standards-based (OPC UA, ISA-95, IIoT).
